Liverpool without F. Torres and Gerrard pierced the Arsenal defence in the 42nd minute. Peter Crouch, receiveing a overhead pass from Benayouin, fired the well placed shot beating alumnia in the bottom left corner. Arsenal strongly came back in the second half. Bendtner known for his high jump and header, scored the goal in fabregas free kick. An inspired substitution by Arsene Wenger and Rafael Benitez was not really effective. Fans expecting adebayor's show was disappointed. Steven Gerrard, who assisted the equalizing goal in champions league didn't make any difference in this match. In the later minutes, Flamini, bendtner shot was saved by reina. The visitors constantly attacked the Gunners. Voronin's lob flew beyond the cross bar. Torres came with nine mins left. Rivaldo: Barca turning people against Ronaldinho

Rivaldo: Barca turning people against Ronaldinho

Friday April 04, 2008
BARCELONA - Former Barcelona star Rivaldo is the latest player to come out in defence of his under-fire compatriot Ronaldinho, claiming the Catalan club are putting pressure on the Brazil playmaker to leave.

Ronaldinho has rarely been out of the spotlight this season with media focus regularly shifting between his weight, his fitness, his form, his private life and his future at the Nou Camp.

Most recently, the former FIFA World Player of the Year has hit the headlines after complaining of a thigh injury that subsequent scans showed no evidence of.

The 28-year-old Ronaldinho was also back in the news on Wednesday after returning to squad training having missed Barca's last five matches, but Rivaldo believes the club is purposefully turning people against his former Brazil team-mate in order to sell him at the end of the season.

"I think it's sad that a club can do this to one of their players," the AEK Athens forward told Spanish radio station Ona FM.

"They're turning people against him and this suggests to me that they want to sell him and they're looking for excuses to do so.

"If players want to go out then let them. If after they score three goals and play well you win the league then there's no problem, but if you lose it's different."

Rivaldo found himself in a similar position in his final year at the Nou Camp after a falling-out with the then coach Louis van Gaal, and eventually left the club after agreeing not to renew his contract and joining AC Milan.

"It's difficult for a player when your own club does this," he added. "It's like having a father who is against his own son.

"A father should always look for the best thing for their son. If your son takes drugs you don't go to the newspapers to tell everyone about it, you talk to him and when you talk things get sorted out.

"Sometimes they don't treat their stars well at Barca. You can't make one player responsible for everything, the other players get paid too and very well."

Barcelona: Bye Bye Ronnie?

Ronaldinho may have played his last game for Barcelona following Friday's revelation that he will miss the next six weeks because of injury.

The club announced on Friday that scans by the club's medical staff had found evidence of a thigh injury sustained on Thursday, in what was only the second time that the Brazilian forward had trained with the club since early last month.

Ronaldinho has not played since the 2-1 defeat at home to Villarreal on March 9, since which time he has persistently complained of thigh pains despite the fact that a scan carried out by the club on March 18 showed no sign of injury.

A statement on the club's official website, www.fcbarcelona.cat, read: "Ronaldinho will be out for approximately six weeks after suffering a pull in the adductor muscle of the right leg in a training session on Thursday.

"During said training session the player suffered the injury in a chance incident, and a scan this morning confirmed a muscle tear that will keep him out of action for approximately six weeks according to the club's medical staff."

The Spanish press are now predicting Ronaldinho has played his last game in a Barca shirt as the injury rules him out of any games until around mid-May.

The former FIFA World Player of the Year has rarely been out of the spotlight this season with media focus regularly shifting between his weight, his fitness, his form, his private life and his future at the Nou Camp.

A move to either Chelsea or AC Milan has been touted for some time, and speculation mounted earlier this week when the Italian press reported a meeting between Roberto de Assis, Ronaldinho's brother and agent, and the vice-president of AC Milan Adriano Galliani.

De Assis also caused a stir at the end of March when he announced to Brazilian website GloboEsporte.com that his brother could look to exit the Catalan club by invoking article 17 of FIFA's transfer regulations.

He said: "The possibility of Ronaldinho leaving Barcelona is always there.

"We are aware of the release clause, but we also know about the existence of article 17. Anything is possible."

Whether he has played his final game or not at the Nou Camp, he will now be unavailable for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Schalke, plus a possible semi-final match-up with Manchester United.

He will also miss the majority of the remainder of Barca's La Liga campaign, including the crucial game with Real Madrid in the Bernabeu on May 7 as they attempt to make up their seven-point deficit on their rivals at the top of the league.

However, there was some good news for Barca fans on Friday as Lionel Messi announced his return to fitness.

The 20-year-old has not played since the beginning of March when he also suffered a thigh muscle tear in his left leg during a Champions League game against Celtic.

On Friday he told El Mundo Deportivo: "I'm fine now and I have completed all the stages of the recovery.

"The leg's responding and thank God the moment of my return has arrived. I'll no doubt be training alone for the next one or two days then on the third I'll join my team-mates."

McLaren: Kovalainen happy with life

Heikki Kovalainen has rejected claims he was "a broken man" after leaving Renault, but insists he is now a far stronger driver with McLaren.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis claimed after the recent race in Malaysia Kovalainen had been "systemically taken apart" during his time at Renault, and his team has "systemically built him back up."

Kovalainen has certainly proven his worth at McLaren to date as he out-qualified team-mate Lewis Hamilton in Sepang before finishing third to the young Briton's fifth.

The Finn is undoubtedly grateful for the opportunity McLaren have given him after his release from Renault at the end of his rookie year.

Kovalainen struggled at the start, incurring the wrath of boss Flavio Briatore, and ultimately it appeared he failed to gain the respect he felt he deserved.

"I don't think I was broken or destroyed at any point last year," Kovalainen said.

"But it is more difficult to show your true skills if you don't have the car, the whole package to be running at the front.

"I felt I did some very good races last year, finishing sixth, seventh or eighth, but unfortunately some people just didn't see that.

"Here we can fight at the front, and hopefully at some point in the season, fight for the victories.

"Then I think some people will realise, but I never had any doubts about myself. I've always believed in myself 100 per cent.

"With this team they can take me in all the right directions to eventually become a world champion."

Highlighting the difference between McLaren and Renault, the 26-year-old added: "I'm in much better shape, physically and mentally compared to how I was last year.

"This team is big, and there are many different areas where they can help me improve - technically, physically and mentally.

"People also listen to me in this team. If I say something they believe me. I'm not saying that didn't happen at Renault, but I feel here the relationship is very strong.

"I did get on very well with everybody at Renault. The guys there helped me a lot, especially after a difficult start.

"We had a lot of discussions and towards the end of the season we got back on track.

"Here we've tried to make sure I don't make the same mistakes as I did last year, with the priority to start the season better.

"I've certainly done that compared to last year, and now I have to keep improving from here all the time."

Kovalainen also feels his troubles last year have been vindicated by the fact Fernando Alonso has struggled in a mid-field car on his return to the team.

"I don't think their car has been performing well enough to be running at the front of the field," Kovalainen added.

"I felt that all the way through last year, but I wasn't worried.

"If they wanted to put another driver in the car, I would have been happy to have done that, but I never felt that was the case last year.

"I felt they believed in me, supported me all the way through the season, and at the end of it we had some good results."

AC Milan: Rossoneri interested in Ronaldinho

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed his club are interested in signing Barcelona's troubled star Ronaldinho.

The Brazilian playmaker is looking ever more likely to leave the Nou Camp at the end of the season and the 28-year-old will have no shortage of offers, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Milan among the clubs keen to acquire his services.

"Ronaldinho is a great player," admitted Ancelotti. "Milan's interest in him has been there for a long time.

"At this time he is a Barcelona player and the club is evaluating the development of this situation.

"He is a champion that interests several clubs."

Ronaldinho, who has struggled to make an impact this campaign with the Catalan giants, could miss the rest of the Primera Liga season having been ruled out for six weeks with a thigh injury sustained on Thursday.

Messi is Back!!!

Lionel Messi has stated that his recovery is going well and that he will return once he is given the green light by club doctors to start playing again. The Argentinian had a series of tests on Friday morning and all of them lived up to the expectations that were made about where he would be at this stage of his comeback from the injury to the femoral biceps in his left leg, the club's medical team reported. Last stage After flying back from Argentina, Messi began the third phase of his recovery in Barcelona and how he responds over the next few days should give an indication of when he will be available to Frank Rijkaard again. Calm and happy "I am working well," Messi said in the press conference. "I am calm and happy because things are going well. I have no pressure on me. I do not yet have a concrete date and I will only play again when I am 100 percent." If Barça defeat Schalke 04 in the Champions League next week and qualify for the semi finals Messi is confident he will back. "I think that I can be fairly sure I will play then," he said. "But we have to play the second leg of this round first. It is on our hands to win." Rijkaard and Ronaldinho. Asked about the criticism aimed at Rijkaard and Ronaldinho, the youngster sought to defend them both: "Frank does not deserve to be treated like that. I owe him a lot and I am very grateful to him," he said. On Ronaldinho, he stated: "If he is calm and happy then he will be able to give everything that he has inside of him, which is still a great deal I believe." Less pressure Messi also warned against placing too much pressure on Bojan Krkic: "He is fine now and I am pleased, but he has to be left in peace," he continued. "He cannot be put under so much pressure and he has to be left alone. That way he will improve even further."
